TRAINING

Medical aspects
Power training
Several medical precautions will make the expedition as safe as possible. The extensive training and preparations will also contribute to the safety of all team members.
  • The entire team has had a full medical and orthopaedic examination. Following this examination we developed a personal training schedule for each team member. Possible injuries developed during the training are analysed and treated by our professional training doctor at Physique.
  • Expedition doctor Herman has developed expertise in high altitude physiology and pathology. Besides his experience and course in tropical medicines he has had several meetings with experienced expedition doctors.
  • The team will bring a broad assortment of medications to the base camp of the Cho Oyu. Besides medicines against acute mountain sickness, high altitude cerebral and pulmonary oedema there will be painkillers, antibiotics, IV fluids and several other medications.
  • Every team member will have his own emergency kit accompanied by the obligatory knowledge to use it properly. Herman will give clear instructions about what to use in a certain condition. Besides this information there will be continuing radio contact between the climbers, sherpa’s and the expedition doctor.
  • The mountain will be climbed without the use of oxygen. We will only bring oxygen for emergency use. Every camp will be provided with a bottle of emergency oxygen.
