We used our "rest day" in Kathmandu to visit the eye hospital, to have a party and to do a little shopping.

Examination of Joost's eyes showed hemhorrages (bleedings) in both eyes. They are indeed caused by altitude and will probably disappear without treatment. Good news! Currently, full vision in his left eye is slowly coming back. The doctors agreed that it was a good decision not to join the second summit attempt. We'd like to thank Foundation Eye Care Himalaya for their great help! Thanks to them we could quickly see a doctor.

The morning after our party in Kathmandu we left to the airport at 5 A.M. After a quite, dreamy flight we started the walk from Lukla (2886 m) to Karikhola (ca 2000 m). Ngima, Pasang and Ang Pemba joined us. They were very happy to introduce us to all their family members that live along the trail. We learned that it's very impolite to refuse drinks offered to you in Sherpa country. We stopped many times and we arrived in Ngima's house in Karikhola in the dark.

The next morning we walked up to the Mera Primary school. We were heartily welcomed by the children, the school commitee and villagers. The committee had prepared a wish list of items for the school. We will use the 8201 Euro we raised to provide 3 years' of a teacher's salary and we will build a library room for the school. We'll update this website with progress on the projects.

Now we are back in Kathmandu and use our time to digest all the experiences of the last couple of months.

We'll arrive on Schiphol on the 11th of May (thanks for correcting us) at 10.30. We'll keep you posted on presentation dates etc.
